The Macclesfield Flow Exhibition is an 01625 Gallery art installation by Sam Todd exploring the concept of a state of “Flow”, open from August 23rd to Nov 16th 2025.
When we are in a “Flow” state, we are doing something enjoyable with the right amount of challenge. In this state we become absorbed, we lose track of time and lose track of our worries for a little while, concentrating on the task and getting a sense of achievement. This helps our systems to regulate, and even reduces our stress levels.
“Flow state theory suggests that when individuals are in a state of flow, they experience deep immersion, focus, and intrinsic motivation in their activities.”
This project explores the activities that help the people of Macclesfield and surrounding area to reach their Flow state. It illustrates the ways in which people create their own Flow, prompting the viewer to consider what creates their sense of Flow. The project will provide some information about Flow states and Flow benefits in a fast-moving, attention-draining world.
